Barack Obama gave his infamous 2014 tan suit fiasco a humorous spin by donning the same in Larry David’s HBO series, Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness. Not only that, but he made the suit the central theme of the spoof video with Larry being a hilarious co-star.

Sharing a brief still from the video on X on Saturday, August 8, 2026, Obama wrote, “People always ask me where the tan suit came from. I think it’s time the truth finally came out.”

Barack Obama Revives His Infamous Tan Suit Fiasco

The spoof video revolves around a funny take on the former president’s tan suit in which Larry David is revealed to be responsible for Obama wearing the tan suit for his 2014 press conference.

During that time, the former POTUS faced widespread criticism after sporting the tan suit where many called it “unpresidential” and “inappropriate.” The controversy had escalated to such an extent that it also got its own Wikipaedia page.

The parody video shows then-President Barack Obama getting ready for his 2014 press conference while engaging in tongue-in-cheek banter with David.

David also asks for a sip of Obama’s smoothie which is kept on the table, to which the latter flatly refuses. However, when the former attorney leaves the room, the Seinfeld creator takes a sip of the smoothie but ends up spilling it on Obama’s navy blue suit which he was originally planning to wear for the press conference.

To solve the problem, he recommends that Obama wear a tan suit instead since it is “casual Friday.” The latter agrees and returns to the room a few minutes later after wearing the suit, asking David, “What do you think?”

Delivering his signature lines, the actor-comedian said, “Pretty good. Pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty good.” While the former president still looks hesitant as he makes his way to the press conference, the Curb Your Enthusiasm star says, “People are going to be talking about this for a long, long time” which they sure did.

Social Media Users React to Obama and David’s Collaboration

The internet was also quick to pour in their reactions to the spoof video. One of the social media users wrote, “The thing is, President Obama looked great in the tan suit.”

Another X user said, “I love that Obama is a Larry David universe character.” Another user on X stated, “The tan suit origin story which we did not need but we deserved.”

Praising Barack Obama, a social media user added, “Obama’s acting skills are top notch.” Another user on X chimed in, “I had no idea that Barack Obama’s acting skills were this good. Dude is a natural.” An X user said, “I could honestly watch an entire series of Larry David and Obama.”

David’s show has been bankrolled by the former president’s Higher Learning Company. In an inteview with Variety, executive producer Ethan Lewis said that he had come up with the idea of inculcating the tan suit fiasco when Larry wanted to involve Obama in a scene.

Lewis told the publication, “From the very beginning, my dream was to close the book on the tan suit once and for all.” The show’s co-creater Jeff Schaffer also praised Barack Obama’s acting and improv skills in the video.
