Deidre Hall has summoned the perfect response to Ryan Gosling's recent praise for soap stars.

The *Days of Our Lives* actress sent a video message to Joshua Horowitz, who discussed daytime dramas with the *Project Hail Mary* actor in a conversation on the *Happy Sad Confused* podcast last week.

"I caught the podcast," Hall said in the video, which Horowitz posted on Instagram on Thursday. "Oh my gosh, what fun!"

Hall, who has portrayed Marlena Evans on *Days of Our Lives* since 1976, revealed that she shared Gosling's interview with the cast and crew of the NBC soap. "We played it in the dressing room, and we played it in the makeup room, and we're just thrilled to be acknowledged and to be so well spoken of," she said. "Because we work really hard, as you acknowledged."

She then extended an invitation to Gosling and Horowitz to come visit her on set. "We think it would be nice if you wanted to come over and see what we do in our neck of the woods," Hall said. "So this is an open invitation to visit the *Days of Our Lives* set."

She paused before adding, "Nobody will be possessed. And if they are, I'll keep an eye on you."

That last comment addressed Gosling's fond recollection of seeing Hall portray a woman possessed by Satan on multiple occasions.

"Soap opera actors in general — they do not get the love they deserve," Gosling said on *Happy Sad Confused*. "[They have to] memorize, the night before, like 10 pages of dialogue. They get one take, and it's impossible scenarios — like Marlena, Deidre Hall, gets possessed."

Gosling recalled the storyline occurring sometime in the '90s at the height of *The X-Files*' popularity when "suddenly everything got supernatural" in entertainment.

"She was possessed by the Devil," he said. "I loved it. What's amazing is I remember thinking like, 'God, Deidre Hall's a great actress 'cause she's having to act possessed right now. This seems like a lot to ask of her.'"

The *La La Land* actor eventually stopped watching the show because, he said, "I think I just had to live my life," but he later saw a new episode that felt eerily familiar. "It was on TV, and she's possessed again!" he said. "Somehow my life keeps crossing the path with when Deidre Hall is possessed."

Marlena was famously under the Devil's spell in a 1995 storyline on the soap after she was drugged and hypnotized by Stefano DiMera (Joseph Mascolo). Satan would possess her again in 2021.
