Margot Robbie tells PEOPLE that preparing to film Wuthering Heights' steamiest scenes is "no different" than any other work she does as an actor at the movie's Los Angeles premiere

Despite the emphasis on the steamy elements of Margot Robbie's new adaptation of Wuthering Heights, the actress says preparing for the movie's romantic scenes did not look any different than how an actor approaches any other moment in a movie.

"No different to all the other scenes that we do. The movie kind of demands a lot of all of us," Robbie, 35, tells PEOPLE on the red carpet at Wuthering Heights' Wednesday, Jan. 28 premiere in Los Angeles. "My character essentially cries in every single scene, but no, it was a joy. I loved playing a character who kind of swings from one wild emotion to the other in an instant."

Robbie costars in Emerald Fennell's adaptation of the Emily Brontë novel of the same name with Jacob Elordi. She has touted the movie, which sees Robbie portray Catherine Earnshaw and Elordi, 28, play Heathcliff, as more "bananas" than even Fennell's sexually charged 2023 movie Saltburn, which also featured Elordi in a leading role.

When Fennell, 40, spoke with PEOPLE on the red carpet at the premiere, she said that the most important aspect of filming steamy movie moments is "always about safety and trust and love" for her, her cast and crew.

"And so it's always just about making sure everyone feels super comfortable and we all are, really. We trust each other and so we try to kind of make it funny and laugh everything off," she says. "But love scenes are just the same as any other scene, really. And so we just approach it from an emotional point of view."

Wuthering Heights is Fennell's first time making a movie with Robbie as an actor, but her third collaboration with the Barbie star as a producer. Robbie and her husband Tom Ackerley run the production company LuckyChap Entertainment, through which they produced Fennell's previous two movies, Saltburn and Promising Young Woman.

"Do you know what? She's an inspiration. She's an extraordinary woman," the writer-director tells PEOPLE of Robbie. "She's a mother, she's a producer, she's an unbelievably talented actress and she also always has time to be generous to the people around her. And so she's the best."

Wuthering Heights also stars Hong Chau, Alison Oliver and Shazad Latif. The film, in theaters Feb. 13, also features an original soundtrack written by pop musician Charli xcx.
