Marshals star Luke Grimes is having a hard time settling in amongst his Montana neighbors.

The 42-year-old actor, who plays Kayce Dutton in Yellowstone and the ongoing spinoff series, joined podcaster Joe Rogan for the Friday, March 13 episode of the Joe Rogan Experience. During the conversation, the pair chatted about the new-found attention the Big Sky State has captured from the hit Paramount shows.

“Your show made a lot of f—ing people move out there,” Rogan, 58, tells Grimes.

“That’s true,” Grimes agrees. “And they’re not happy about it.”

Elsewhere in the conversation, the Fifty Shades of Grey actor opened up about living in Los Angeles for 16 years. Though, during that time, he says he was “ready to get out.” After marrying Bianca Rodrigues Grimes in November 2019, the couple relocated to Austin for a few months before moving to Montana to film. Together, they shares a son who was born in October 2024.

However, Grimes hasn’t had the most welcoming reaction from his Montana neighbors.

"The valley that I live in, we had some people come visit us," Grimes says. "Our friends from California drove out, and we went on a hike, and we were in their car. And they had, you know, Cali plates."

He adds: "We get off the hike, and someone had written 'go back' in the dust on their car. Like, people are super weird about it. So I don't tell anyone exactly where I'm at because they would get really mad at me."

The actor says he can’t even show his face in public spaces: “I can’t go to bars there anymore ‘cause whatever that one idiot is, is at the bar, and he can’t wait to start a fight with me. Just like can’t wait to do it because it’s like a win-win for him, you know? He gets to sue me or something. I don’t know, but it’s a lose-lose for me.”

Despite the tensions, Grimes says he is still perfectly content living far from Hollywood.

“I have no FOMO about anything anymore,” he says. “I can just think and sleep and read and watch films and it’s the best.”

During a February premiere of Marshals, Grimes spoke to Fox News Digital about how his family’s love of Montana developed “slowly.”

“It was just a gear change that slowly happened over the course of a few years and then, yeah, my wife and I just fell in love with it and decided to live there,” he said.

Grimes played a major role as Kayce in the hit Yellowstone series. He now stars as the lead in Marshals, which follows the character as he leaves the Yellowstone ranch to work with an elite team of U.S. Marshals, according to the show’s synopsis. The series premiered on March 1.
