Melanie Lynskey is feeling sentimental as Yellowjackets prepares to air its fourth and final season.
The actress stopped by the third hour of Today on Monday, August 10, to chat about her new Netflix film, Don’t Say Good Luck. During the conversation, host Craig Melvin brought up how Lynskey and the Yellowjackets cast recently wrapped filming for Season 4. “Can you tease anything? What can fans expect from the fourth and final season?” he asked.
While Lynskey didn’t drop any plot details, she teased that fans will have a lot to look forward to in the new episodes. “It’s so weird that it’s over. I mean, it’s been crazy,” she stated. “The show has been crazy. It gets crazier. We were all just like, ‘Wow, OK!'”
When asked if she saw where the story’s conclusion was heading, Lynskey remarked, “I did not. Yeah, but it’s a fun ending. Everyone gets a fun ending.”
Yellowjackets, which debuted in 2021, follows a high school girls’ soccer team that gets stranded in the wilderness after a plane crash and the extreme lengths they go to in order to survive. The show follows both the teen girls’ timeline as well as their adult counterparts, who struggle to keep the truth of what happened in the wild under wraps.
Lynskey and Sophie Nélisse split the role of survivor Shauna Sadecki. Lynskey scored two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role on the show in 2022 and 2023.

Lynskey commemorated the end of Season 4 filming in an emotional Instagram post on July 15. “Genuinely don’t know how I could ever thank our cast and crew enough but I threw a little party last weekend to try to express some of my gratitude,” she wrote. “It came at the end of two incredibly long and tough weeks, including night shoots, and honestly I could not believe how many people showed up- my heart!! I know how tired everyone was so it meant the world.”
She continued, “I love everyone so much. Thanks for everything. Nearly at the finish line!!! And @sophie__nelisse I love you the most and I’m happy we got all these pictures, we’ve never met a Photo Booth we didn’t love.”
Nélisse shared her appreciation for Lynskey in an Instagram post of her own. “Not to get sentimental, but it’s hard to find the words to encapsulate the end of this chapter. This show – and everyone apart of it – truly has changed my life,” she wrote on July 24, adding, “@msmelanielynskey sharing Shauna with you has been one of the greatest privileges of my career. You are a second mom to me and I can only aspire to become half the women that you are.”

In the post’s comments, Lynskey gushed, “I love you so much! You are the funniest person ever. You see everything. You say exactly how you feel, have no time for stupid people and have such incredible strength, at the same time as being the gentlest-hearted most loving caretaker who wants everyone to be safe and fed and cosy and happy. Your work has been just unbelievably beautiful and every day I’m thankful that I got to do this with you.”
