Olivia Culpo is looking back over the last year of her life fondly

The model speaks with PEOPLE fresh off of the launch of her new baby items collection, Picolette, which was inspired by her first year as a mother to daughter, Colette

Culpo reflects on her first year of motherhood, and opens up about what she’s looking forward to as she prepares to welcome her second child with husband Christian McCaffrey

Olivia Culpo is preparing to be a mother of two!Last year, Culpo and her husband, San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey, welcomed their first child, daughter Colette Annalise, and since then, the model has shared updates on their baby girl’s first year of life (which, naturally, involved quite a few football games) on social media. In May, the couple announced that they were expecting their second child.Amid her pregnancy with baby No. 2 and raising a daughter under 1 at the same time, Culpo has managed to squeeze in some time to launch a full-fledged collection with Target, named Picolette (a nod to the Italian word for small, and also her daughter’s name).

Speaking with PEOPLE fresh off the launch of Picolette, Culpo looks back on the last year, as she grapples with just how fast it’s flown by.ā€œSomething about being a mom to a small child is how fleeting it feels, and then knowing the moments matter so much,ā€ she says, adding that the feeling is what primarily inspired her to create her collection. For Culpo, the process of creating accessibly priced baby clothing and items, like the Birthday Keepsake Book, has been quite ā€œemotionalā€ as she reflects on how special it is to be a part of so many other moms’ stories. She adds that, as a full-time mom, it’s ā€œhardā€ to manage running a business and putting together a collection if you don’t ā€œlove what you’re doing.ā€ For Culpo, she loves both bits — being a mom and creating. She calls it ā€œunbelievableā€ how fast time has flown. Now in her third trimester, Culpo’s daughter has just turned one and the expectant mother gushes over the tiny age gap that her two children will have.

ā€œI think at the beginning, you just ask yourself, no matter what the age gap is, you just check in with yourself and you ask, ā€˜Can I do this? Am I going to be okay? Is this okay?’ But I’m so excited to have two children close together in age. I just know that this is going to be something I’m so happy that I did, because they’ll have a built-in best friend,ā€ says Culpo, who is the middle child of five.ā€œI’m so close with my siblings, and I’m excited to give that gift to my daughter,ā€ she adds. ā€œMy mom always says the best thing she ever gave us were our siblings, so I really do agree with that.ā€

Culpo is also adamant that her success over the last year is a result of the ā€œvillageā€ that she surrounds herself with throughout the year. Given McCaffrey’s busy schedule during the NFL season, Culpo shares that it’s not always easy having to bear the brunt of childcare tasks without her husband at home. However, there are tons of people to lean on, and the former Miss Universe gives kudos to her fellow women of the NFL.ā€œShout out to all the wives out there, because it’s always a lot when they leave. It’s a huge transition for your family. So that’s hard regardless.ā€ She’s also found it helpful to lean on the women of her husband’s team, as many of them also own their own businesses and work to keep them running throughout the year while their partners are away.

Culpo mentions her fellow 49ers WAG and good friend, Kristin Juszczyk, as a big support. Juszczyk has her own clothing line of custom NFL apparel, called Off Season, and Culpo recounts the pair’s conversation about being able to juggle it all throughout the year.ā€œWe talked the whole time about just the pain points of having so much going on with the business, but also how fun it is, so that’s really rewarding.ā€Outside of the other NFL women, Culpo leans on her family — like her in-laws and mother — heavily.ā€œFootball is family, so I feel like as soon as the season starts everybody knows that everyone needs a little extra support, and you’ll notice a lot of people have family around just all the time, because it takes a village,ā€ she says, jokingly adding, that it may be a ā€œlittle codependent, but it’s what I have to do to survive.ā€As she looks forward to the arrival of her second child, Culpo shares that though her daughter is still quite young, she’s already showing her big sister tendencies. ā€œI do think she’s going to be excited to have someone to play with. I don’t know if she’s going to completely get it. But I’ve been getting her dolls, baby dolls to prepare her for the new baby and she loves baby dolls, so I think that’s a step in the right direction. I have a feeling she’s going to be really excited to have a sibling, honestly.ā€
