JLR is hoping to attract high net worth individuals with its new Jaguar Type 01, coming this October, but its older products are sill capable of doing the same, as proven by a new collection of four Classic Defender V8 models that have been painted in a matching color-flipping finish. The collection comprises the 90 Station Wagon, 90 Soft Top, 110 Station Wagon, and the 110 Double Cab Pick-Up, the latter of which is new to the Works Bespoke service, and all four were commissioned by a single owner. Let's see what has been done.

Each of the four vehicles in the collection, based on a 400-horsepower 2012-2016 Defender, is painted in a finish called Spectral Green, which changes between green, purple, and gold, depending on the viewer's vantage point and the light. The wacky look is repeated on diamond-turned 18-inch Sawtooth alloy wheels, the exterior badges, and the interior trim pieces. Each vehicle took nearly 400 hours to be painted, which included making the roof and expedition cage Icy White. The white coachlines running down the sides of each vehicle were applied by hand, and inside, the bucket seats are trimmed in Bridge of Weir Vanilla leather, contrasting with the darker tones of the body.

Other upgrades include debossed floor mats and a new 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment display that provides Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and a 13-band graphic equalizer. A reversing camera can also now be fitted to these Classic Defender builds, and it includes a camera lens washer so you can reverse safely even after slinging mud on the trails.

Along with the new infotainment setup, these older Defender models can now be had with 16-inch heavy-duty Wolf wheel options in Fuji White and Coris Grey. There's also the option of a Trophy Pack with a Narvik Black Gloss hood, roof, rear door assembly, and wheel arches. As for what all this costs, JLR won't say, but given that the Works Bespoke service allows a commissioning customer to color-match any hue from any source, you can expect to pay Bentley money, or deep six figures for something similar. It's a strange juxtaposition, comprehensively reworking a rugged classic off-roader design with the kind of luxury finishes normally seen on Rolls-Royce Bespoke vehicles, but it's smart of JLR to keep these brand-affirming icons fresh in the contemporary age, especially given how much of a departure from tradition the aforementioned Jag Type 01 will be.
