Consumers in seven states are being urged to check their refrigerators for ready-to-eat pasta salad.
Reser's Fine Foods recalled thousands of pounds of a ready-to-eat pasta salad product because it may actually contain chicken salad with undeclared allergens.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced the recall Thursday, June 25, saying approximately 5,300 pounds of the mislabeled product could contain egg and milk, two major food allergens that are not listed on the label.
According to federal officials, the product was sold as "Molly's Kitchen California Style Pasta Salad," but some containers may instead contain ready-to-eat chicken salad. The labeling error could pose a health risk to people with egg or milk allergies.
The problem was discovered after Reser's Fine Foods notified the agency that ready-to-eat chicken salad products had been mistakenly labeled as ready-to-eat pasta salad.
Because chicken salad contains egg and milk, consumers with allergies or sensitivities to either ingredient could experience a serious allergic reaction if they eat the mislabeled product.
No confirmed illnesses or adverse reactions have been reported in connection with the recalled product, according to FSIS.

Consumers who purchased the recalled pasta salad should not eat it. Instead, they should throw it away or return it to the place of purchase.
