Get excited, dearest gentle reader! Shonda Rhimes is sharing which Bridgerton character may be in the running to helm their own potential spinoff.

While visiting Craig Melvin’s Glass Half Full podcast, the executive producer revealed that there will ā€œdefinitelyā€ be more projects to come out of the greater Bridgerton universe following the success of 2023’s Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.

ā€œThat’s an area that we’re excited about and know that that could be really rich and really mined well,ā€ Rhimes told the Today co-anchor.

ā€œI’ve always said that I thought that if we were gonna do something like that, Violet would be a great person to tell the story about, the Bridgerton mom,ā€ she clarified, referencing Ruth Gemmell's character. ā€œSo yeah, that’s a possibility.ā€

And they have the foundations for it, if they so choose. Bridgerton author Julia Quinn explored Violet and her late husband Edmund’s relationship in her 2013 novella, Violet in Bloom; however, as Quinn explained on her website, she thinks it’d be ā€œtoo bittersweetā€ to pen more of their love story given Edmund’s tragic death.

ā€œI can’t even begin to say how touched I am that so many readers want Violet to get her own (second) happy ending, but I’m afraid I just don’t see writing her story,ā€ Quinn wrote.

ā€œI used to think it was because she was so devoted to Edmund, but after exploring the issue of second loves in When He Was Wicked, I realized that really wasn’t the reason,ā€ she continued, making a nod to Francesca’s book. ā€œI’ve thought about it a while, and in all honesty, I don’t think I could come up with anyone good enough for her. Seriously. I just adore her.ā€

After spending the last three seasons of Bridgerton helping her children find love, Violet’s own love life blossomed in season 4 when she struck up a romance with Lord Anderson (Daniel Francis). The pair, however, ended up going their separate ways in the season finale after she chose to prioritize her own independence over getting married once again.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Jess Brownell revealed that Violet having to watch her daughter Francesca mourn the loss of her husband John Stirling had a direct impact on her relationship with Lord Anderson.

ā€œI think she's remembering that she lost Edmund at such a young age and was thrown into single parenting,ā€ she said. ā€œAnd for a long time, I’ve felt — and I think a lot of the writers feel — that Violet deserves to put herself first sometimes.ā€

She continued, ā€œI think dating Marcus is a step in the right direction, but I actually think part of the reason that they do eventually break up in the end is because Violet has some more solo work to do. Or the opposite of work — she has some more fun to have before she's ready to lock down with someone.ā€

Season 4 of Bridgerton is streaming on Netflix now. Watch Rhimes talk a potential spinoff above.
