Softball ballot, vote now for Central Jersey Player of the Week
Another week brought another round of standout performances on softball fields across Central Jersey.
Here are the nominations for the Central Jersey Softball Player of the Week award. All stats through Sunday, May 10.
Voting ends Friday at noon.
Nominees selected by Simeon Pincus and Josh Rosenfeld. Voting winner will be featured as the Player of the Week.
Mount St. Mary
Third baseman
The four-year starting third baseman has reached safely in every game since opening day, notching at least one hit in all but three contests this season. She enjoyed another productive week as the Mount dropped a one-run contest to surging Gill St. Bernard’s and a Prep A first-round game to two-time defending champ Pingry, then finished strong with victories over Montclair Kimberly and Chatham. DeLuca had hits in all four contests, recording a 5-for-10 week with a double, triple, three walks, five runs and four RBIs. She’s hitting .382 for the year with five doubles, the triple and seven walks.

Senior
Big week for the Stateliners, who went 3-1 with the loss coming to powerhouse Hillsborough and the wins coming twice in the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament, beating Hunterdon Central and top-seeded Delaware Valley in the semifinals, and besting rival Easton. Fallon went 7-for-14 over the four contests with four runs and five RBIs, including a 3-for-4, two-RBI day against Central and two RBIs in the 5-4 win over Del Val. The second baseman is hitting .353 for the season.
Calvary Christian
Junior
The Lions only played twice last week but its junior catcher still managed to drive in 11 runs as they extended their winning streak to three games. Fazio went 3-for-3 and drove in five runs in a win at Mother Seton, then clubbed a grand slam and delivered the walkoff single in a return engagement with the Setters. She’s batting .553 for the season and slugging .974 with a team-leading 29 RBIs.
South Plainfield
Sophomore
South Plainfield won 3-of-4 games last week as Fusaro went 6-of-14 with five RBIs, topped by a two-hit, three-RBI performance in a divisional victory at Monroe. Her batting (.414) and slugging (.543) are remarkably similar to her breakout freshman campaign (.415/.523) for the reigning GMCT champions. The sophomore has already collected 56 hits in her career.
East Brunswick

The Bears have won six in a row and their sophomore ace has been in the circle for all of them, including wins over North Brunswick and Old Bridge on Saturday, yielding three runs and 29 strikeouts over the last 24 innings with just one walk. She often ignites the East Brunswick attack as leadoff hitter and is batting .431 with 28 hits, 26 runs and 18 stolen bases. Career stats include a 2.92 ERA with 157 strikeouts and 39 walks in 143 innings and a .442 batting average with 69 career hits already.
North Brunswick
Junior
North Brunswick was 3-2 last week with losses to powers Woodbridge and East Brunswick as Melendez went 12-of-14 with six RBIs, including her 100th career hit in a one-run win over South Brunswick on Saturday. She leads the Raiders in batting (.544), slugging (.721), hits (37) and runs (36), with 19 runs driven in. Melendez’s career numbers include .467 batting, slugging .664 slugging, 53 RBIs and 81 runs scored.
Union Catholic
Sophomore
The Vikings are surging again, notching three impressive wins last week, topping New Providence and GMC power Woodbridge in regular-season games and then toppling Westfield in the Union County Tournament. Pardo had a huge week, going 10-for-12 two doubles and two home runs, scoring four runs and driving in eight. She’s followed up her breakout freshman campaign with another big year, hitting .481 with four doubles, two homer, 13 runs and 15 RBIs.
Linden
Freshman
The Tigers had a five-game winning streak snapped by top-seeded A.L. Johnson in the Union County Tournament, Linden’s longest run since 2011, and Vera claimed the victory in four of them, including her first shutout, and a 10-strikeout performance in a win over Roselle. She struck out 33 in those victories and walked nine over 23 innings, finishing with a career-high 13 strikeouts in a UCT verdict over Plainfield. For the season, she’s 7-3 with 63 strikeouts and 34 walks in 53 innings.
Hillsborough
Senior
The veteran third baseman has brought leadership and production, helping the Raiders bounce back from two rebuilding seasons and they’ve authoring a complete turnaround, carrying a 17-1 record into the week. Whitney, a four-year letterwinner, had a big hand in Boro’s 3-0 slate, with wins over Bernards, Phillipsburg and a county-tournament victory over Franklin, going 5-for-12 with two doubles, three runs and five RBIs. She’s batting .397 for the season with 10 doubles, 11 runs and 16 RBIs.
